Coca-Cola HBC Croatia has donated funds for the planting of 130 trees at several locations in Split as part of the "ZaZelenimo Split" project, initiated by the city company Parkovi i nasadi. This project focuses on greening urban areas in Split with the aim of improving environmental quality and increasing resilience to climate change. With the help of Coca-Cola's generous donation, fast-growing seedlings, at least three meters tall, have been planted to provide shade as quickly as possible and contribute to the project's goals.
„Coca-Cola HBC Croatia continuously strives to reduce its environmental impact and achieve a Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions in its entire value chain by 2040. We have identified urban reforestation as one of the areas where we can achieve measurable and lasting effects on the communities in which we operate. Therefore, we are proud to support a project that contributes to the greening of the second-largest city in Croatia, and we hope to inspire other companies to join this initiative, which will enhance the environment and positively impact the well-being of the citizens of Split", stated Igor Zgrabljić, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Coca-Cola HBC Adria.
As part of the donation, a park with 30 mulberry trees has been created near the Poljud Stadium, in front of the Nautical and Industrial High Schools in Split. Additionally, the Street of the Croatian Navy has been greened, with the planting of 20 mulberry trees. This Mediterranean tree will also adorn the Zvončić kindergarten in Bačvice and the Mandalina kindergarten in Varoš, as well as the surroundings in front of the old maternity hospital, that is, the Health Center. The remaining trees, including pines, cypress trees, and bitter oranges, will be planted on Kman and Lovrinačka Street.
“The idea is for businesses to get involved and donate amounts that would enable the enhancement of existing parks, green spaces, and playgrounds, as well as the creation of new green oases throughout the city. The donation from Coca-Cola HBC Croatia, which enabled the planting of trees, is the largest donation received as part of the project, while the City of Split will finance the work and maintenance of the planted trees", emphasized Siniša Gašparević, Director of Parkovi i nasadi company.
ZaZelenimo Split is one of four greening projects in Split carried out by the city company Parkovi i nasadi. It is a platform that, inspired by European examples, involves the community with the aim of improving environmental quality, resilience to climate change, and the well-being of the population in the city of Split.
