Community

Community

Coca‑Cola HBC is an active member of the community in each of the 28 countries in which it operates, and Coca‑Cola HBC Croatia is no exception.

Our mission requires us to improve quality of life and invest in local communities and so we have integrated corporate responsibility and sustainability into our business. We aim to operate in a responsible way by engaging with stakeholders and communities to support their sustainable development.

Through our core business activities - which generate income for employees, supplier payments and government taxes - our focus remains to invest in community partnerships and projects that address environmental and social issues.

Our community investment focuses on three key strategic areas, which we have identified based on the existing societal and environmental needs in the countries where we work: community well-being, environmental and water stewardship and youth development.

Water stewardship

As part of our water stewardship strategy we partner with international and national governmental and non-governmental organisations to preserve and protect important watersheds, such as the Danube, Sava and other rivers, their basins and watershed areas, including wetland habitats and biodiversity.

In 2014, we signed a seven-year partnership with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) for the renewal of the wetlands and the flooded areas along the Danube in six European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Serbia).

Additionally, Coca‑Cola HBC Croatia, Croatian Ministry of Regional Development, Forestry and Water Management and Sava Basin Commisio have been conducting a joint project “Our beautiful Sava” dedicated to the protection of water resources in the Sava River basin and the promotion of water preservation in Croatia.

Active lifestyles

As part of our health and wellness strategy, we support initiatives across our operating region that encourage people to be more active. We’ve stepped up our efforts to achieve global objectives in this area for the Coca‑Cola system. “Happiness is Movement” is a project that has been implemented by the Coca‑Cola system in Croatia since 2013 with the aim of promoting active lifestyles and the importance of regular movement. In 2016. Coca‑Cola in Croatia has started a new initiative – opening of Happiness is Movement active zones (outdoor gyms) across Croatia.

Youth development

Unemployment among young people remains a significant challenge in many markets. We support enterprise educational programmes and offer internships, as well as empower underprivileged young people by providing skills training and access to funding. We support youth development, and our programmes aim to help young people develop self-esteem and leadership skills. With our Youth Development platform, we organise the management trainee programme, Career from the Bottle, and youth program Coca‑Cola Youth Empowered.

Emergency relief

We have a strong relationship with National Red Cross.

This community partnership enables us to respond rapidly to emergencies by using our logistics and delivery systems to deliver safe drinking water – for example, during the floods in the Balkans during the summer of 2014.

In addition to emergency relief, our work with national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies includes community care, health training and fundraising.

We invested over 600 hours in volunteer work for emergency relief in 2014 and, along with the Coca‑Cola system, provided help to affected areas amounting to approximately 1 million kunas.

Coca‑Cola Youth Empowered programme

Youth Empowered is a new program developed by Coca‑Cola HBC to help support young people aged 18-30, focusing on those who aren’t in education, employment or training. This diverse and inclusive programme is designed to empower young people to achieve their career ambitions and live a fuller life.

The programme

Delivered through a combination of online engagement & e-learning and in- person sessions, the Youth Empowered programme provides fundamental life and business skills to support young people in their transition from school to meaningful employment, while helping them to build long-lasting professional and peer networks. Through our business network, we leverage our relationships with training providers, community organisations, customers, suppliers and other business partners to create a network of groups and organisations which will mentor, assist and provide opportunities to Youth Empowered participants.

Our Commitment

We commit to support young people on their journey towards meaningful employment or education, through the provision of fundamental life and business skills as well as effective networks.
