PROJEKT OD IZVORA DO MORA NA ČIOVU
This year’s edition of From Source to Sea (“Od izvora do mora”), an environmental project implemented by Coca-Cola, Konzum and Jutarnji list, which promotes preservation of Croatian water resources and encourages proper disposal of packaging waste, continued with the cleanup of the Sveti Križ beach on the island of Čiovo.
Thanks to the organisational efforts of the Trogir Scout Troop, more than sixty volunteers joined the initiative to clean up the Sveti Križ beach in Mastrinka on the island of Čiovo, known for its thick pine forest. During the cleanup, the volunteers collected several hundred kilograms of waste, which was properly disposed of after the event.
The project has been endorsed by the Town of Trogir, and its representative, Ruža Kovačević Bilić, Acting Director of the Administrative Department for Social Activities of the Town of Trogir, who attended the event, said: “I am glad that Trogir has been recognised as a good partner to Coca-Cola, Konzum and Jutarnji list in this excellent and praise-worthy environmental campaign. We clean our town pretty often, and we also have numerous associations, enthusiasts, scouts, and divers who propose initiatives that we always endorse. We are proud to be the second town in Croatia to eliminate single-use plastic from the Town Administration through the Plastic Smart Cities initiative. We are also immensely proud of the fact that our two extremely popular beaches, this one included, have applied for the Blue Flag after the recent underwater cleanup campaigns showed that our seabed is in fact exceptionally clean. Unfortunately, regular cleanups are necessary, and we have therefore readily joined this one as well, all the more so because its timing, at the very beginning of the tourism season, is ideal, and helps us welcome our domestic and foreign guests even more prepared. I would like to thank Coca-Cola, Konzum and Jutarnji list for this initiative that has both functional and educational weight. We look forward to the first available opportunity to take part in a campaign like this again.”
“Coca-Cola launched the From Source to Sea project in 2018 seeking to draw attention to the importance of responsible disposal of packaging waste and preservation of water resources, as well as to promote initiatives aimed at cleaning up the shores of Croatian water bodies – rivers, lakes, and the Adriatic Sea. We are extremely glad that our project has been recognised at both the national and local level, and would like to thank our hosts – the Trogir Scout Troop and the Town of Trogir – for their efforts. We are also very pleased to know that this beach will be ready to welcome the peak season in its full glory, and that the From Source to Sea project will continue throughout June across Croatia,” said Tomislav Šarušić, Regional Sales Manager for Southern Croatia Sales Area at Coca-Cola HBC Croatia.
This year, Konzum partnered with the project as well. Its representative, Miranda Filipović, Director of Konzum’s Region South 2, said: “I am exceptionally pleased that the From Source to Sea campaign has reached Dalmatia, more precisely the island of Čiovo. The tourism season has already started. In this period, domestic and foreign tourists account for a large number of Konzum customers. We are aware that the impression we leave on them as hosts greatly depends on the beauty and cleanliness of the environment in our towns and villages. I am therefore proud that Konzum has joined a project that promotes initiatives to clean up our shores. We are already constantly focused on promoting environmental protection, and we want to preserve our environment for future generations of – tourists and, more importantly, our fellow citizens.”
